Overview
The R. Ferreira Research Group is focused on deploying Spintronics enabled solutions in industrial products and society at large, while keeping scientific excellence and continuously pushing promising technologies from low TRL to high TRL. To this end, the research group develops its activities along two research lines concerning magnetic field sensors and spin dynamics.
We’re looking for a Research Assistant to join our team under the project NIMFEIA.
Job Duties
The job duties will be the following:
- Measure magnetic tunnel junctions in the context of implementation as artificial neurons and synapses;
- Support the design of future devices in terms of magnetic stack and nanodevice geometry;
- Basic device preparation and characterisation.
Mandatory Qualifications
Education
- MSc in Physics*
*candidates finishing their MSc until January 2026 will still be consider eligible for evaluation.
Experience and Technical Skills
- Characterisation of magnetic tunnel junctions;
- Modelling artificial neural networks;
- Experience in magnetism and magnetic materials;
- Experience of emerging neuromorphic hardware, including modelling of full networks.
Other Valued Skills
- Python;
- Micro magnetic simulations.

How the Selection Process works
A. Applications eligibility check

The question based interview will evaluate the match between the candidate’s profile and the requirements for the position, including the technical and personal skills. To better support this stage, the candidate may be requested to prepare a short presentation.
D. Nomination
The selected candidate will be nominated and formally offered the position, including the disclosure of the contractual conditions.
